The word "yukata" refers not only to the 100% cotton fabric (samples seen below), but also refers to the kimono shaped robe worn at home after the bath; as a relaxing garment at hot spring resorts; and as a cool, colorful kimono worn by young women at summer festivals. The process of creating the beautifully hand stenciled and dyed cotton fabric is a complex and disappearing art. We have been fortunate to be able to acquire so many rolls of this superb fabric on our trips to Japan. Yukata is colorfast, has no right or wrong side (the design is equally vibrant on both sides) and only improves with repeated washings, becoming softer and more comfortable. It is an ideal fabric for quilting and for sewing garments. Each roll of yukata fabric is 13 yards in length and 14 inches wide: enough for one kimono.
